What is the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation?

On May 25, 2018, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect. The regulation imposes stricter requirements on how both public and private entities process and store personal data.
The purpose of the regulation is to strengthen the rights of individual citizens and ensure a higher degree of transparency and security in the handling of personal data.

What does Åkirkeby Medical Center do?

As a healthcare provider, we take data security seriously.
Åkirkeby Medical Center has developed and implemented internal procedures governing how personal data is stored, used, and protected. We have:

  • Entered into data processing agreements with relevant partners (both private and public) with whom data is exchanged
  • Developed an IT security policy that ensures a high level of protection against unauthorized access and data theft
  • We have established a procedure for handling security breaches so that we can respond quickly and appropriately if something unexpected happens
  • We have developed a privacy policy for patients that clearly describes how we process your information in accordance with applicable laws

What does this mean for you as a patient?

As a patient, you will not notice any changes in your daily interactions with the clinic.
Your personal information will continue to be handled with the utmost professionalism, respect, and confidentiality. However, as a patient, you have the right to know how your data is processed.
