Maritime Certificate and Vision and Hearing Test for Recreational Sailors
If you plan to work at sea, you’ll need a valid seafarer’s certificate. If you’re a recreational sailor, you may be required to have a “vision and hearing test.”
This certificate verifies that you are medically fit for sea service and is a legal requirement of the Danish Maritime Authority.

For patients and others
The medical clinic offers maritime medical certificates and recreational boating medical certificates to everyone within two weeks. If you’re in an emergency situation and need a certificate, we can often accommodate your request.
You do not need to be a patient at our medical practice to have a medical certificate issued.
Read more about the requirements and regulations for maritime certificates on the Danish Maritime Authority’s website.
Remember to bring
- Valid photo ID
- Glasses/contact lenses as needed
- Any previous health certificate
- Copy of the most recent medical examination for any chronic illness
Note: These appointments are usually scheduled late in the day so as not to interfere with the clinic’s regular consultations.
