As of November 25, 2024, the general subsidy for the diabetes medication Ozempic will be discontinued. Going forward, subsidies will only be provided if all other relevant oral treatments for type 2 diabetes have been tried—and the patient’s condition is still not well-controlled.
Ozempic may then only be prescribed as an adjunct, typically as a third- or fourth-line treatment option. Reimbursement must be applied for on a case-by-case basis and will only be approved if the criteria are met. Applications that do not meet the requirements will be rejected by the Danish Medicines Agency.
We therefore recommend that you talk to your healthcare provider about a possible change in medication at your next diabetes checkup if you are being treated with Ozempic.
